We’re passionate about supporting people to learn, grow, and thrive through sport and physical activity. One of the ways we do this is by offering apprenticeship opportunities that provide hands-on experience, valuable qualifications, and the chance to make a real difference in the community.
This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Evie Bailey, one of our talented apprentices currently undertaking a Level 4 Sports Coach Apprenticeship.
Evie is a huge football fan and a dedicated Southampton supporter- following both the men’s and women’s teams- and also enjoys playing netball. With sport playing such a big role in her life, it’s no surprise she’s decided to build a career around it.
After coming across one of our wraparound care job opportunities, Evie successfully completed the recruitment process and joined our Mission Support team. Her responsibilities included delivering wraparound sessions and supporting our holiday camp provisions.
It was through this experience that Evie discovered just how much she enjoyed hands-on learning. Rather than continuing down a traditional university route, she decided to pursue an apprenticeship with us to develop her skills in a more practical and impactful way.
Why Evie chose to take the apprenticeship route:
From Evie’s perspective, apprenticeships provide four key benefits:
- Hands-on experience – Learning on the job and understanding how and why things are done.
- Making a positive impact – Seeing the difference her work makes, particularly in how children look up to her.
- Earning while learning – Gaining a real living wage while building skills and knowledge.
- Being part of an incredible team – Working within a supportive, ambitious team environment.
The transition from Mission Support to apprentice was a smooth one for Evie. Having already felt part of the team, the move into her apprenticeship role was exciting rather than daunting. She’s embraced the opportunity to continue learning and developing.
For Evie, the decision to continue her journey with us was about more than just career progression. She wanted to keep supporting our mission while building her own knowledge and experience. From delivering PE lessons to enhancing her abilities in wraparound care and holiday camp activities, Evie is continually learning, growing, and making an impact.
Evie’s long-term ambition is to become a PE and Sports Educator, with hopes of eventually training as a primary school teacher. Her apprenticeship is providing the perfect foundation to achieve those goals, and we’re proud to be supporting her on that journey.
Stories like Evie’s are at the heart of what we do, helping people develop their skills, gain experience, and make a real difference through sport and physical activity.
