Tell us about yourself – who you are, what you do/study currently?
My name is Kiera, and I am currently studying a Level 3 Business BTEC Diploma and an A level in History at Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh. I’m really enjoying studying business and have found a real passion for marketing during my studies. I also work as a part time barista for the Orangery Tea House in Titchfield which is a fast-paced and varied hospitality role that requires excellent customer service, financial acumen, initiative and teamwork. I really enjoy that particular field of work and additionally, work in a more ad-hoc based role for Barmotion, supporting the Marketing Director with events and preparation.
Why did you choose to do your work experience at ActiveMe 360?
When applying for work experience, ActiveMe 360 caught my eye due to the fact the company portrays an excellent work ethic, great working environment and ambitious aspirations. They are a company that gives back to the community, as well as helping children lead a healthy life which is something I really wanted to be a part of and is rewarding in itself. Looking at the more marketing side, they are a newer company that has grown a lot and their marketing department is something that is really aiding this progress; therefore I thought it would be an amazing insight to see how crucial this is to the company, especially in an industry where marketing is still so new.
What were you hoping to gain from this experience?
From this experience I was hoping to gain some new skills within marketing, being able to use different software systems and applying my theoretical knowledge to the practical side. I was also hoping to consolidate whether this is a career I would like to pursue and my passion for business is something I could reflect through this experience. Work experience was a way to prove my abilities and grow as a person which is something I really hoped to achieve.
What did you get to do on your week?
During my week, I was able to work on market research, which included researching their competitor’s and where ActiveMe 360 stands within the wider market, as well as having a go with stakeholder research and data validating. In addition to this, I was working on Canva to design social media assets following the recently update brand guidelines which was a more creative task. It enabled me to think outside the box and really explore how the marketing is all laid out to correspond with the company’s brand and values. I also explored my copy writing skills, writing social media copy and blogs.
What was your highlight of the week?
My highlight of the week was definitely filming a Day in my life: Work experience addition, which showed everyone the reality of being on work experience. It was my favourite task because it was funny and a really nice way to show everyone how much I’ve enjoyed my time with ActiveMe 360 and got out of my experience.
Reflecting on this week do you think you gained anything from it?
From this week, not only have I gained a good understanding of how marketing works in the real world, but I’ve also gained an insight into what it is like working in a corporate world. The way I should be addressing different levels of the company, drafting emails professionally and presenting myself in a more executive way. I’ve also been supported by the marketing team which has helped me gain as much as I could from my experience. They have adapted their week to be able to give me the best possible takeaway, so thank you so much!
