Maths on the Move

Our physically active learning programme, Maths on the Move, was created to improve confidence and attainment in Maths.

Overview

By offering an alternative approach to curriculum learning, schools can meet children where they are in their learning journey, especially those who struggle to learn in a traditional classroom setting.

Maths on the Move was developed by teachers, for teachers and is tailored to meet the needs of your school by selecting the modules to suit their children’s needs. The programme might use physical activity as a method of learning but please be rest assured that this is not a PE lesson. However, it does help pupils achieve the recommend 60 minutes of activity a day. Integrating active learning into the school day can make maths lessons more engaging and support a more dynamic learning environment.

Maths on the Move is used by primary schools across England and the UK, supporting the delivery of maths education within the context of the English and UK primary school systems. Teaching Active Maths is endorsed as a use of the government’s PE and Sport Funding.

The impact

A six-week study conducted by academics from Leeds Beckett University has concluded that the MOTM programme both improves maths attainment and increases physical activity levels. Research has suggested that active learning approaches, such as those used in Maths on the Move, lead to increased student motivation in mathematics.

How it works

Wondering how it works? Press play on the image to see what a physically active lesson looks like.

In a nutshell, the process looks like this:

  1. You select your bespoke booklets to meet the needs and current learning of the pupils during the 12 week programme.
  2. Each session will cover a different topic and at the start of each session, pupils complete 5 questions.
  3. Next, pupils will implement the methodology into physical activities, applying the learning to real life situations with the support of our educator.
  4. To finish, pupils will complete 5 further questions.
  5. See the pupils’ improvements through impact reports which are delivered termly.

With the option to book a 12-week trial or a 1-day taster lesson, you can be confident that you’re making the right decision for your school and your pupils. If the programme ends up not being right for you, then there is no commitment to continue working with us after your trial.

No two pupils are the same, we get that, which is why you can tailor Maths on the Move to suit pupils’ individual requirements. Use the programme as an intervention to support lower achieving children or extend the learning of those who are gifted and talented. The results show that, whatever the pupil’s pre programme confidence level, it is boosted upon completion of Maths on the Move.
